VIJAY MARIE HOSPITAL AND EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY is a 200-bed General Hospital operated by the Society of Sisters of Charity. It began in 1948 as a modest dispensary and orphanage, established at the invitation of Bishop Dennis Vismara and later supported by Mark Gopu of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, with the support of Fr. Xaviour Roch the then Parish priest of Our Lady of Good health Church Khairtabad.
Its mission was to serve the healthcare needs of the economically disadvantaged communities in Chinthalbasti and Khairatabad. Guided by the charism of their Foundress, St. Bartholomea Capitanio—who believed in choosing the poorest among the poor—the Sisters embraced the humble calling of providing compassionate healthcare to the underserved.
Over the past 75 years, Vijay Marie Hospital has steadily evolved into a full-fledged tertiary care institution. In addition to offering comprehensive clinical specialties, the hospital has expanded into professional nursing education with a mission to uplift young women—primarily from low socioeconomic backgrounds—by equipping them with strong professional and ethical foundations in nursing.
This vision led to the launch of the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course in 1973, followed by the B.Sc. Nursing program in 2003 and the M.Sc. Nursing program in 2013.
To enhance the quality of clinical services and promote research, the hospital also introduced postgraduate medical training through the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) programs—beginning with Obstetrics & Gynaecology in 2012, Pediatrics in 2021, and later adding Diplomas in Anaesthesiology and Family Medicine in 2023. These initiatives aim to train young doctors in sound clinical skills and prepare them to serve with excellence.
Driven by a deep spirit of service, Vijay Marie Hospital is committed to safeguarding and improving community health. The institution actively engages in health outreach by organizing free medical camps and offering rural and urban healthcare services in areas such as Gagillapuram and surrounding villages of Ranga Reddy District, as well as the Rasoolpura slums in Hyderabad.
